The Handymartian Studio is where the work of animator, illustrator and musician Andy Martin is created.
Originally from Sheffield but now based in London, Andy Martin has been creating character lead animations since 2001. Using both 2D and stop motion animation techniques, Andy’s work is filled with humour and a musical sensibility which he applies to commercial projects as well as self initiated shorts.
Throughout 2013 he created a 'Planet' animation every month as part of a daily character design project called 'Illustrated Aliens'. This became the 12 minute short ‘The Planets’ which won the Children’s Award at the Encounters Short Film And Animation Festival in 2014. He has had 6 Vimeo Staff Picks with his animated shorts online and his film 'Mr Director' has been screened at various festivals around the world after premiering at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, where it was shortlisted for the McLaren Award for best new British animation. His latest film 'First Contact' is animated to the opening track of 'The First Contact LP', a 16 track album of original music written, produced and performed by Andy under the name Handymartian.
Andy was a keynote speaker at the 10th Pictoplasma Festival in Berlin and at the See No Evil animation event in London. He hosted a stop motion workshop based around his film 'Plasticine Rhythm' at the Pick Me Up Festival in London which he then taught annually at ESAD in Portugal as part of the animation post graduate course.
The Handymartian Studio is fully set up for the creation and production of 2D and stop motion animations. Project can be taken on from the initial concept stage right through to design, storyboarding, animation and sound design. The studio specialises in character focused animation for TV commercials, online campaigns, music videos and promotional videos.
